Anambra CP Condemns Attack on Vigilante Office in Umunze, Calls for Community Support to Apprehend Gunmen

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has strongly condemned a violent attack on vigilante operatives in Umunze Community, Orumba South Local Government Area, which occurred in the early hours of June 5, 2025. Suspected armed men stormed the vigilante office, setting five operational vehicles ablaze and causing significant damage to parts of the facility.


During a fierce gun battle, one security operative sustained a fatal injury as the vigilantes attempted to repel the attackers. The Police-led Joint Security Force has since taken control of the scene and launched operations to track down the perpetrators.


CP Orutugu urged community members to support the ongoing efforts by providing vital information to help bring those responsible to justice. The police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
