Anambra Police Commissioner Orders Detention of Three Inspectors Over Corruption Allegations

Awka, Anambra State – On June 11, 2025, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, ordered the immediate detention of three Police Inspectors accused of corruption. The directive follows allegations that the officers, during a security patrol, accosted an unsuspecting member of the public, forcibly searched their phone, and extorted money from the victim.


CP Orutugu, a distinguished officer holding the titles fwc, MNIPS, and PhD, expressed strong disapproval of the officers’ unprofessional conduct during their interrogation. He has ordered the commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings to address the matter in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s regulations.


In a statement issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Police Command, CP Orutugu emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined, transparent, and accountable institution. He condemned any form of abuse of office, corruption, or unprofessional behavior, noting that such actions undermine the Force’s policies and directives while eroding public trust.


“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate conduct that negates its professional calling or widens the trust gap between citizens and the Force,” CP Orutugu stated.


The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity and professionalism, assuring the public that appropriate measures will be taken to address the misconduct.
