Anambra Police Launch "Walk for Safety" to Combat Kidnapping and Violent Crimes on Democracy Day

On June 12, 2025, the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), initiated a "Walk for Safety" and launched a campaign aimed at curbing kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. The initiative, held in commemoration of Democracy Day, underscores the police’s commitment to fostering peace and strengthening community ties to enhance security.


The walk commenced at the Area Command in Nnewi, covering key locations including Nkwo Triangle, Nwafor Orizu Roundabout, First Bank Junction, and Nnobi Junction. The event served as a platform to raise awareness about the devastating impact of violent crimes and promote a culture of peace and non-violence in Anambra State.


SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and local communities. “This initiative is designed to build trust, encourage community engagement, and create a safer environment for all residents,” Ikenga stated. He highlighted the role of the PCRC in mobilizing community support to tackle security challenges effectively.


The "Walk for Safety" not only showcased the police’s proactive approach to crime prevention but also reinforced the need for collective responsibility in maintaining peace and security. By engaging residents in high-traffic areas of Nnewi, the campaign aimed to foster stronger relationships between law enforcement and the public, encouraging citizens to play an active role in reporting suspicious activities.


The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining such initiatives, leveraging community partnerships to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all.
