Anambra Police Rescue Two Children, Arrest Suspects in Child Stealing Case

On June 12, 2025, operatives from the Ozubulu Divisional Headquarters of the Anambra State Police Command successfully rescued two children, aged 3 and 5, and apprehended two suspects involved in a child stealing incident. The arrests took place in Okpuno-Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, following a swift response to a distress report.


According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, the operation was triggered by a report from the victims' mother. She was alerted by one of her children, who recounted how an unknown individual had abducted two siblings while they were on their way to her shop near Nwafor Junction, Eziora, Ozubulu.


The suspects, identified as Onyedika Daniel, a 19-year-old male, and Nkechi Onuwa, a 25-year-old female, were arrested by the operatives. During interrogation, Onyedika confessed to the crime and led the police to Oba, where he had handed the children over to Nkechi Onuwa as part of their criminal scheme.


The rescued children have been safely reunited with their parents in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The Anambra State Police Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate, and the case will be brought to court upon completion of the investigation.


SP Ikenga emphasized the Command’s dedication to safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and combating such crimes. This operation underscores the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Anambra State residents.
