Police operatives attached to the Onitsha Main Market Police Division, with the assistance of local traders, have apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in the tragic murder of a 17-year-old boy on June 12, 2025. Authorities also recovered an automatic pump action gun linked to the incident.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects, reportedly security operatives, were attempting to arrest a suspect in the bustling Onitsha Main Market when they opened fire indiscriminately. Tragically, a stray bullet struck and killed the innocent teenager.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikoiye Orutugu, condemned the incident, describing the actions of the suspects as "avoidable and unprofessional." He has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the arrests and urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue
