Police-Led Joint Security Team in Aguata Rescues Kidnap Victim, Neutralizes Suspect in Fierce Gun Battle

On the night of July 12, 2025, operatives of the Police-led Joint Security Force from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Aguata successfully rescued a 26-year-old female kidnap victim and neutralized one armed suspect during a high-stakes operation in Amaokpala, Anambra State.
According to a statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, the incident occurred during a routine night visibility patrol. The team encountered a group of armed hoodlums who opened fire upon sighting the operatives. The security forces responded tactically, engaging the criminals in a 40-minute gun duel.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of one suspect, who was fatally wounded and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, where the body was deposited in the morgue. The rescued victim was debriefed and provided with medical attention, with arrangements underway for her safe reunion with her family.
The operatives recovered several items, including a pump-action gun, 11 live cartridges, an ash-coloured Toyota Camry (Reg. No: Lagos-EPE-208-FK), a police belt, a carton of Chelsea sachet alcoholic drink, a Zenith Bank ATM card, an axe, a small Tecno mobile phone, a packet of cigarettes, assorted charms, and ₦2,700 in cash.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their bravery and reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the state. “Anambra will remain a hostile environment for criminals,” he stated, praising the team’s gallant efforts.
The Anambra State Police Command continues to urge the public to provide timely information to aid in maintaining security across the state.
