IPAC Pushes for Peaceful, Transparent Anambra Poll

One day after political actors signed a Peace Accord, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Nigeria convened a stakeholders’ engagement and voter sensitization press conference at Awka, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to rally for a peaceful, transparent and all-inclusive Anambra governorship election on November 8.


Delivering the keynote on behalf of National Chairman Dr Yusuf M. Dantalle, IPAC National Publicity Secretary and Zenith Labour Party National Woman Leader, Mrs Oge Chinyere Kalu declared the gathering part of IPAC’s nationwide drive to strengthen democratic values, deepen voter education and boost civic participation. 


She described IPAC; recognized by INEC as the official voice of all registered parties, as the platform for inter-party dialogue, peaceful engagement, issue-based campaigns, stakeholder coordination and credible elections at national, state and local levels.


Kalu urged Anambra voters to turn out en masse on election day, vote by conviction and conscience, reject vote buying, intimidation and violence, and treat every ballot as power to shape the state’s future. To candidates and parties she insisted the electorate’s will is supreme, leadership must be earned through ballots not coercion or manipulation, and contestants must prioritize issue-based campaigns, maturity, tolerance and sportsmanship while placing Anambra’s interest above personal ambition; reminding them leadership means service, sacrifice and stewardship, not self-interest.


She commended INEC’s preparations but demanded strict adherence to the Electoral Act 2022, INEC guidelines and constitutional provisions, insisting the commission remain neutral, transparent and professional to guarantee a level playing field. Security agencies were equally charged to act with fairness, vigilance and restraint to build voter confidence.


“Election is not war; it is a democratic contest of ideas and vision,” Kalu stressed, calling for rejection of hate speech, incitement or any act that could undermine Anambra’s peace and unity. She said credible polls require responsible action from voters, candidates, INEC, security, media and civil society, and urged all to make the election a national model of peace, transparency and inclusion.


Dr Prince Chinedu Obi, National Chairman of National Rescue Movement and IPAC Director-General, called the briefing an IPAC tradition to sensitize stakeholders during elections. He asked participants to relay the message to their constituencies and the media to amplify it to the masses, while condemning parties selling voter cards to rivals as “tantamount to selling out.”


In a vote of thanks, Anambra IPAC Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Ugwuorji; also ZLP state chairman and governorship candidate, thanked the national leadership, urged fellow parties to take the message home and tasked media with widespread dissemination.


Present were Comrade Chief Matthias Ameke (IPAC State Publicity Secretary), Hon. Christy Ndidi Olieh (National Rescue Movement governorship candidate), Chioma Grace Ifemeludike (African Action Congress governorship candidate) and other state party heads.


IPAC concluded with a collective resolve to uphold democracy, fairness and accountability, placing Anambra and Nigeria’s interest first to ensure the people’s will prevails.

Ambassador Chukwuebuka David Onuorah, has urged all sons and daughters of the town living in cities and overseas to return home this Christmas.
