National Digital Economy Bill; FG engages Anambra Stakeholders ... State Govt driving tech innovation - Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has reiterated his administration's resolve to continue driving technological innovations in the state. 


He said this while welcoming the team from Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy at the ICC Centre, Awka, Anambra State capital, during the National Digital Economy Bill Stakeholders' Engagement Session, Tuesday, November 26, 2024.


Speaking through the Managing Director and CEO of Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, the governor observed that Anambra State has a small land mass and therefore its future lies in technology and innovation. 


In his words, "The government of the day is intentional about driving technology and innovation in Anambra State. Anambra State has a small land mass and therefore our future lies in tech and innovation. With the passing of the long awaited bill and its speedy domestication in Anambra State, the future of commerce and trading will improve rapidly in the state."


On his part, the facilitator of the engagement session, Barrister Bankole Ovia while stating that Nigerian government is driving technology noted that such local challenges as fragmented digital infrastructure, limited digital literacy, insufficient cyber security measures and data privacy vulnerability are the concerns that led to the design of the bill. 


Barrister Bankole enthused that the National Digital Economy Bill seeks to make Nigeria a digital economy leader in Africa by fostering secure digital transactions, encouraging legalisation of electronic signature and modernisation of citizen-centric public service through enforced e-governance. 


Others who spoke during the event were the Anambra State House of Assembly Member representing Idemili South Constituency, Honourable Emeka Igwe who stated that the Anambra State House of Assembly will be eager to domesticate the bill once passed at the federal level. There was also the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Innovation and Business Incubation, Chinwe Okoli, who reiterated the words of Agbata that the government of the day in Anambra State is at the forefront of driving tech and innovation. She stated that the state government is at the verge of domesticating the start up act, and that this week has been designed by the Solution Government of Anambra State for promoting technology, innovation and business incubation across the 21 local government areas of the state.


High point of the Stakeholders' Engagement was the feedback session from the participants after proposed bill review group discussions during which various concerns were expressed and reviews suggested that would improve on the bill.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty. Police recovered an axe at the scene, believed to be the murder weapon. According to the Anambra State Police Command, operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station responded to the scene at approximately 1:40 p.m. after Nnamdi attempted to take his own life following the killing. Nimo General Hospital Board Inaugurated as Catholic Diocese of Awka Resumes Management

Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, inaugurated the new board of Nimo General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marking a pivotal step in revitalizing the healthcare facility. The ceremony, held at the hospital premises, included the handover of N35,730,817 to the board, representing the balance of a prior government donation plus accrued interest.
