Anambra South Senatorial By-Election: Sam Ben Nwosu Throws Hat into the Ring

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the January 2025 by-election in Anambra South senatorial zone, Prince Sam Ben Nwosu, a former Federal Commissioner and kinsman of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has announced his intention to contest the vacant seat. Nwosu, who will be running on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), declared his candidacy at his country home in Ndiakwu-Otolo Nnewi on December 20.


According to Nwosu, his decision to run is driven by the need to provide a new dimension of representation to the people of Anambra South, who have been without a voice in the Senate for nearly six months. He assured that he possesses the intellectual, moral, and physical capacity to take over the late Senator Ubah's seat and contribute meaningfully to the development of Anambra South and the state at large.


Nwosu dismissed concerns that the PDP has lost popularity in the Southeast and Anambra State, stating that his personal appeal and reputation will rally support from the people. He also expressed confidence in his ability to match the APGA candidate, citing the ruling party's loss of all three senatorial seats in Anambra during the 2023 general election.


On the issue of filling the big shoes left by late Senator Ubah, Nwosu vowed to design a new and unique model of representation that will give absolute voice and control to Anambra South, rather than copying his predecessor's approach. He also supported the call for Nnewi North to complete late Senator Ubah's tenure before the slot is rotated to another local government area in the senatorial zone.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty.
