As the battle for who will replace the Late Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Ubah continues, many aspirants have been declaring interests to run.


AIF Media has continued to publish the Profiles of the aspirants who have indicated interest to contest Bye Election on various political platforms.


Here comes Chief (Dr) Ebuka Onunkwo who has declared to contest this election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. 


Chief (Dr) Ebuka Onunkwo was born 54 years ago. He was born on December 3, 1970, in Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, to the family of Chief John Abanihi and Mrs Juliana Nwanyinkwo Onunkwo.


He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of Seahorse Lubricant Industries Limited, Chief Onunkwo who is popularly called Eze Igbo has a story of a man with Grace who though not born with a silver spoon, rose to prominence through hard work, perseverance and self-discipline.


Chief Ebuka Onunkwo has a similar life story with the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, as he started his journey to prominence as an apprentice.


Today, CEO SeaHorse Ltd remains one of the most outstanding businessmen in Nigeria. He is an industrialist, entrepreneur and manufacturer.


He is also a philanthropist having touched many lives and lifted many from poverty. 


He attended primary school in Ihembosi and secondary school in Ihiala. The young Ebuka excelled academically and was outstanding during debating competitions. 


After his primary education, his parents sent me to Warri for apprenticeship due to lack of funds. However, his elder brother intervened, enabling him to attend secondary school.


While in the secondary school, he lost his father in JSS 2. And after his secondary education, he was sent to apprenticeship again due to financial constraints.


He later joined his nephew in Idiroko Nigeria/Benin Republic border in Ogun State to learn a trade, dealing in motor spare parts.


With hard work, his initial retail outlet in Cotonou blossomed into a sophisticated enterprise. From spare parts to lubricant importation, his business expanded. From importation he became a manufacturer. 


However, Eze Igbo was forced into production of lubricant in Nigeria after his Turkey-based supplier went bankrupt causing him to lose over $3.2 million. Determined not to allow the brand, which was already popular in Nigeria, to die, he started producing locally in April 2017. This pivot earned him numerous awards.


Today he has over 1000 persons in his employ. 


Chief Onunkwo despite being a wealthy man did not stop at the secondary level. He holds a diploma in French and has attended economic development courses in the United States of America, USA. The Seahorse boss is a Fellow of the Institute of Oil and Gas Research and Hydrocarbon Studies with specialization in Strategic Management. He's an awardee of an Honorary Doctoral Degree by  Ecole Superieure Sainte Felicite, ESSF, University, Akpakpa Cotonou


As a philanthropist he has;

1. A scholarship scheme for primary and secondary education covering school fees and registration for external examinations like WAEC, NECO, etc., since 2009

2. Constructed and asphalted many roads.

3. Sponsored over 20 youths abroad. 

4. Provided and installed electricity via purchasing of cables, transformers and poles in many communities.

4. Instituted Scholarship/Educational endowment funds for students in higher institutions from Ihembosi, Ozubulu and other communities.


His philanthropic gestures to churches and other religious organizations can not be left out. Some of the churches he has either rebuilt or renovated in Ihembosi included St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Christ Holy Church (Odoziobodo), and St Mathew Anglican Church, among many others.


Ebuka is a peace lover. His unwavering commitment to bringing peace to his immediate community and the society at large has earned him an Eminent Peace Ambassador by the International Association of World Peace Advocates, the United Nations Peace Volunteers, and the Chartered Fellowship Award.


His contribution to the socio-economic development and growth has earned so many awards and accolades at home and overseas.


He won, the Sun Newspaper's Industrialist of the Year Award 2020. 


In September 2021, Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, presented a Certificate of Honour to him "in recognition and grateful appreciation of his contributions in Building Education in the state. Ebuka's love for education also resonated in Ogun State where CrownPoint International School of Health Sciences & Technology immortalized him by naming the College's Multipurpose Hall after him in recognition of his immense contributions and support to the institution.


Others include the Award Of Excellence by Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization, NIDO; and an Award for Outstanding Philanthropy, Business Acumen and Service to Humanity by the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, and so on.


Chief (Dr) Ebuka Onunkwo has stepped forward to replace the Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in the National Assembly. Despite having similar life history with Ebube Chukwu Uzo, he is a member of Ifeanyi Ubah political movement.


Before venturing into politics, the Seahorse is known to have supported many politicians financially. He is a billionaire and has all it takes to fund his election.

He is qualified experience wise.

He is financially qualified.

He is a member of Ifeanyi Ubah political structure.


He is the leading aspirant in Anambra south Bye Election which will hold in January 2025.
