Yuletide: Tinubu's wife gifts N50m to Anambra elderly citizens

250 elderly citizens, aged 65 and above in Anambra State joined their counterparts across the 36 states of the Federation, the FCT and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA) to benefit from the Renewed Hope Initiative of wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Wednesday, December 18, 2024.


The scheme which was designed to support the welfare of the elderly citizens annually was increased from N100,000 to N200,000 each this year to provide futher support to our elderly citizens during this festive season.


According to the wife of Anambra State, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, Anambra RHI Coordinators and DEPOWA have recieved theirs and will distribute them to 240 aged citizens. 


Soludo's wife who read an address on behalf of Tinubu's wife with the theme "Total Wellness" enjoined the citizens to inculcate the habit of healthy living for a happy, wealthy and prosperous life. 


She pointed out that the beneficiaries aged 65 years and above will share N50million as the state's share out of N1.9 billion mapped out for the scheme this year.


In her admonitions, Mrs Nonye Soludo urged the elderly to stop eating edibles which are unkown to them especially canned or packed foods. "Eat foods that is natural as nature made them and this is very important. At your age, you don't need canned foods, especially tin tomatoes, packaged species among others. "What you need to take good care of yourself is eating natural food, fruits and vegetables. Drink plenty water, engage in exercises and good rest. The greatest wealth today is your health", she added.


There were also free medical services which included checking of the eyes, blood pressure and Sugar level the aged citizens. 


Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Medina Ifeanyi from Ogbaru, Comrade Ebenezer Obakamma and Mr Isaac Uche from Ihiala, thanked the president's wife and Mrs Soludo or remembering the poor, and described the gesture as the first in the history of the state.


Also at the event were the wife of the deputy governor of Anambra State, Mrs Oluchi Ibezim, wife of the National Chairman of APGA, Mrs Amara Ezeokenwa, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South, Mrs Amaka Obi, among others.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty. Police recovered an axe at the scene, believed to be the murder weapon. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, inaugurated the new board of Nimo General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marking a pivotal step in revitalizing the healthcare facility.
