Anambra journalists urged to harness sports for healthy living, socioeconomic development

 

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr Christopher Molokwu, on Monday, urged journalists to engage in all forms of sporting activities for general well-being and socioeconomic development.


Molokwu, who stated this at the organisation's headquarters in Awka, Anambra State capital while receiving newly elected officers of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu (PhD), argued that all forms of sports would be beneficial to journalists.


According to him, there was need for journalists to host annual games and encourage members participation in various sporting activities to harness their potential, scout talents among the younger generation as well as maintain healthy living.


 He also stressed the need for the NUJ to mentor potential and younger journalists including training all the practitioners' to master use of electronic gadgets and acts of digital communication so as to diversify their means of practice.


The ABS boss while congratulating Comrade Odogwu and his team members on their success at just concluded NUJ Anambra State Council triennial conference, urged them to be innovative, embrace all members as well as extend hands of fellowship with other contestants that lost out for effective running of the administration.


Earlier, the re-elected State Chairman, NUJ, Anambra Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu sought partnership with the ABS management through the in-house Chapel with a view to harness potential in sports while increasing their visibility and impact in society.


Odogwu was last Friday, reelected as Chairman of Anambra State Council alongside other officers such as Comrade Beatrice Onuchukwu, Vice Chairman; Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu (PhD), Secretary; Comrade Chinyere Ogbuagu, Assistant Secretary; Comrade Chibuzo Obidike, Treasurer; and Comrade Ogochukwu Onwukwe, Financial Secretary.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty. Police recovered an axe at the scene, believed to be the murder weapon. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, inaugurated the new board of Nimo General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marking a pivotal step in revitalizing the healthcare facility. The ceremony, held at the hospital premises, included the handover of N35,730,817 to the board, representing the balance of a prior government donation plus accrued interest.
