CONTROVERSY TRAILS ANAMBRA HOTEL DEMOLITION: OWNER DENIES KIDNAP ALLEGATIONS

The recent demolition of Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, has sparked controversy, with the hotel's owner, Mr. Udoka Calistus Ejim, vehemently denying allegations that his property was being used as a kidnappers' den.

Ejim, in a telephone interview, expressed shock and disappointment over the allegations, stating that he had no knowledge of any criminal activities taking place on his property. He challenged anyone with evidence to provide video or pictorial proof.

"I am not afraid of any investigation," Ejim said. "I have already reported to the police and requested a thorough inquiry into the matter, including questioning the seller about the controversial 'grave' structure."

Ejim alleged that the demolition might have been orchestrated by his predecessor, Mr. Nwagbo, who he claimed wanted to reclaim the property. He stated that he rented the property from Nwagbo in 2021 and later purchased it in 2023.

The Anambra State Government, however, maintains that the hotel was demolished due to its alleged use as a kidnappers' den. Mazi Ejimofor Opara, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on New Media, stated that the government has been working tirelessly to address the root causes of crime in the state.

The government's efforts include the launch of "Operation Udo Ga-Achi" and the signing of the new Anambra Homeland Security Law, establishing the "Agunechemba" to tackle crime. The government has also made significant strides in human capital development, recruiting over 8,000 new teachers, 2,000 security personnel, and 1,000 health workers.

As the controversy surrounding the hotel demolition continues, Ejim's denial of the kidnap allegations raises questions about the government's handling of the situation. The Anambra State Government has maintained its stance, but Ejim's claims highlight the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.
