Mayor Of Idemili North Registers 2,500 Persons Into Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme

The Chairman of Idemili North local government area, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka

has registered two thousand five hundred (2,500) persons into Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA).

Nkwoka while speaking at the event which was also used to mark his hundred days in office, held at Idemili North Council Secretariat, Ogidi, revealed that those registered includes the elderly, children aged five years and below and security personnel. factreporters.com.ng

The Mayor maintained that the event was targeted at providing qualitative health care service for the local government area through ASHIA.

In his speech, Commissioner of Health, Dr Afam Obidike, stated that Anambra State government has declared a zero tolerance for maternal, under-5 child and elderly mortality in state. 

Dr. Obidike who represented Governor Chukwuma Soludo explained that the present administration is making huge investments and interventions in the health sector.

The Commissioner said the initiative is in line with the health agenda of the state government which is to ensure universal health coverage and lauded Chief Nkwoka for prioritizing the health of the citizenry.

In his remark, the Commissioner of Information, Dr Law Mefor, said that Governor Soludo's interventions have multiplier effects in the state, hence the reason the state won the National Primary Health Care Leadership award. 

The Managing Director of ASHIA, Dr Simeon  Onyemaechi, represented by Dr Adeke Okechi, reiterated the agency's commitment  towards providing access to quality health care and promised that the 2500 enrollees will receive their identification cards in three weeks time. 

Highpoints of the event included the commissioning of a new minibus for use as ambulance, and unveiling of unified sign post and painting of primary health care centres in the council area.
