In a pleasantly surprising turn of events, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu has been re-elected the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, as his former treasurer, Comrade Ogemdi Ozoemenam, who worked against him in the campaign, was voted out.
Announcing the results in the keenly contested election, Comrade Dr. Stanley Onunkwo, the chairman of the electoral committee announced that while the other executive positions were all returned unopposed, the two that were contested, the Chairmanship and Treasurership positions, saw Emeka Odogwu's camp winning by a wide margin.
While Comrade Ngozi Obileri, got 40 votes, Emeka Odogwu got 173 votes. And while Ogemdi Ozoemenam got 45 votes, his opponent, Obidike coasted home 168 votes as well.
Addressing the union shortly after the election, Hon. Kamen Chuks Ogbonna, Head of Media to Late Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who observed the process, congratulated the newly elected officers and enjoined them to continue promoting the ideals for which the fourth estate of the realm is known by.
He informed the newly elected officers that the Senator in waiting, Chief Dr Ebuka Onunkwo, who is vying to contest to replace Late Senator Ubah at the House of Senate, would be hosting them soon. He also pledged Onunkwo's support for the union as it continues in its noble job of serving as watch dogs of the society.
