Controversies trail arrest of palace guard by Udo Ga Achi

Tensions are rising in Enugu-Agidi community, Anambra State, following the arrest of Chukwudi Tansi, a palace guard accused of gunrunning, kidnapping, and other crimes. The traditional ruler, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, and the town union president, Hon. Ebuka Onuorah, are at loggerheads over the arrest.

The controversy began when Tansi was recruited into the community vigilante group despite objections from the town union president and other stakeholders. Tansi had previously been arrested in April 2024 for unlawful possession of firearms and was released on bail allegedly secured by Igwe Okekeuche.

The traditional ruler has denied any ties with Tansi, while the town union president claims there is evidence of their relationship.

The situation has been exacerbated by accusations and counter-accusations between the two leaders. The town union president has written to the governor, requesting protection due to threats to his life.

A security consultant, Chris Adigwe, has called for an unbiased investigation into the matter, stating that the security agencies must extract as much information as possible from Tansi to resolve many criminal cases. The consultant also emphasized the need to protect the town union president, who has put his life on the line for the community.
