Nigeria - In a shocking and devastating incident, a Nigerian citizen who had fled to Europe to escape persecution was brutally murdered upon his return home for his mother's funeral.


According to eyewitnesses and family members, John Ude, a Nigerian returnee from Europe, was killed by suspected Jihadists in a rustic village in Okigwe, Imo State, in September 2024.


The perpetrators, who had been seeking revenge against Ude and his friends since 2014, allegedly attacked him for urinating on a mosque wall, which they did not know was a sacred site. This incident sparked a deadly chase, resulting in the death of one of Ude's friends 10 years ago.


Fearing for their lives, Ude and his friends had previously sought refuge abroad. However, Ude's return to Nigeria proved fatal.


"This horrific event has left our family in anguish, and we fear for our lives," said Nneka Udeh, sister of the deceased. "We are exploring all available options to ensure our safety and security."


The incident highlights the rising insecurity and extremist violence in Nigeria, which has led to a growing sense of unease among citizens.


Efforts to reach the Nigerian authorities for comment were unsuccessful.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty.
