Anambra CP Leads Security Patrol, Visits Fire Incident Scene in Onitsha

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday, March 31, 2025, spearheaded a comprehensive security patrol across key areas of the state, reaffirming his dedication to ensuring law and order. The patrol included a significant stop at the scene of a recent fire outbreak at Ifejirika by Nwangene in Onitsha, where the CP assessed the situation and ensured compliance of deployed police personnel in maintaining public safety and preventing crime in the area.


Expressing regret over the fire incident during his on-the-spot assessment, CP Orutugu proposed an urgent meeting with marketers, warehouse owners, and relevant stakeholders to devise measures aimed at preventing future occurrences. The visit underscored the police command’s proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property in the commercial hub.


In a related development, the CP visited the Fegge Divisional Police Headquarters, where he interviewed suspects and ordered the immediate release of two individuals allegedly detained over a minor offence. This action highlights his commitment to fair policing and addressing minor issues swiftly.


The Onitsha Bus Drivers Association also threw its weight behind the police efforts, pledging support to enhance security and facilitate the full restoration of economic activities in Onitsha. The association’s solidarity was warmly received as a boost to the command’s initiatives.


Furthering his community engagement, CP Orutugu made a stopover at the palace of the Head of the Northern Community in Anambra State. The visit emphasized the importance of inclusivity and unity among residents, irrespective of ethnic backgrounds, as a cornerstone for peace and stability in the state.


The patrol extended to other strategic locations, including the Main Market Divisional Headquarters, Building Materials Market, Onitsha Headbridge, and several other key areas. These efforts reflect the command’s ongoing commitment to community policing principles aimed at fostering trust between the police and the public.


SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, reiterated that such patrols and engagements would continue to strengthen security and public confidence across the state.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty.
