FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO CELEBRATES CHIEF EBUKA ONUNKWO'S COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION

The Federal Polytechnic Oko was abuzz with excitement on Thursday, March 27, 2025, as the institution’s Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, personally handed over scholarship cheques to seven outstanding students, courtesy of Chief Dr Ebuka Onunkwo, Chairman/CEO, Seahorse Lubricant Industries Ltd and foremost Senatorial Aspirant under APGA, a revered philanthropist whose identity resonates with generosity in Anambra State. The scholarship, designed to uplift underprivileged students, underscores Chief Onunkwo's unwavering commitment to education and community development.


In a vibrant ceremony held at the Polytechnic’s main auditorium, Dr. Awuzie praised Dr. Onunkwo for his exceptional magnanimity, describing the gesture as a lifeline for students facing financial hurdles. “This scholarship is a testament to Onunkwo's vision of empowering the youth to become agents of change in our society,” she remarked. The Rector highlighted that the beneficiaries earned their awards through a meticulous selection process, reflecting their academic promise and determination.


The recipients of this prestigious scholarship include Chukwuma Ifeanyi Paul (Year 3, Mechanical Engineering), Nwankwo Blessing Ada (Year 3, Business Administration), Okeke Chinedu Victor (Year 3, Electrical/Electronics Engineering), Igwe Precious Amaka (Year 2, Public Administration), Eze Chiamaka Grace (Year 2, Computer Science), Obiakor Emmanuel Tochukwu (Year 2, Civil Engineering), and Aniagboso Joy Chinelo (Year 2, Accountancy). Dr. Awuzie encouraged the awardees to make the most of this opportunity and strive for excellence in their academic and professional pursuits.


The event also served as a platform for the Polytechnic to reflect on the broader impact of such initiatives. Dr. Awuzie called on other influential Nigerians and corporate organizations to follow Dr Onunkwo's example, stressing that collective support is essential to unlocking the potential of the nation’s youth. “Education is the bedrock of progress, and Chief Dr Ebuka Onunkwo has shown us what true leadership looks like,” she added.


The Dean of Student Affairs, Engr. Patrick Okafor, who coordinated the recipients’ presentation to the Rector, joined in commending Chief Onunkwo, noting that the scholarship not only eases financial burdens but also inspires hope and ambition among students. The ceremony was graced by key members of the Polytechnic’s leadership, including the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Onuegbu; the Registrar, Mr. Anthony Eze; and the Bursar, Mrs. Stella Okoli, all of whom expressed their gratitude for Onunkwo's benevolence.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, inaugurated the new board of Nimo General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marking a pivotal step in revitalizing the healthcare facility.
