Joint Security Team Rescues Kidnap Victim, Kills Notorious Kidnapper in Ihiala, Anambra State

In a decisive operation on the evening of March 24, 2025, a Joint Security team in Anambra State, comprising personnel from the Police, Military, and Ihiala Vigilante, successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, recovered his shuttle bus, and neutralized a notorious kidnapper in Ihiala. The operation, which unfolded during a routine patrol, has been hailed as a significant victory in the fight against crime in the state.

According to a press release issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, the incident began when the security team intercepted a black shuttle bus with registration number RSH 255MS, observed driving suspiciously. When the operatives attempted to stop the vehicle, the armed occupants opened fire, sparking a fierce gun battle.

In the ensuing exchange, the Joint Security team overpowered one of the assailants, who was fatally wounded, while four others fled into a nearby bush, sustaining various degrees of bullet injuries. A subsequent search of the abandoned shuttle bus revealed a harrowing discovery: a blindfolded victim, believed to have been kidnapped, was found tied up with his hands and legs bound and his mouth sealed. The operatives swiftly rescued the victim, administered first aid, and handed him over to the police for debriefing. The shuttle bus was also recovered as evidence.

The Joint Security team has since launched a manhunt in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects, who remain at large. Authorities believe the operation could lead to further arrests as efforts intensify to dismantle criminal networks in the region.

In response to the incident, the Anambra State Police Command has issued a directive to all proprietors of private and public hospitals across the state. They are urged to admit but immediately report any individuals presenting with bullet wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station. This measure, according to SP Ikenga, is crucial to tracking down the escaped suspects and curbing the rising tide of criminality in Anambra.

“The Command remains committed to maintaining security dominance through sustained patrols and targeted security operations in the State,” the statement read, reaffirming the resolve of security agencies to protect lives and property.

The successful rescue operation has been met with commendations from residents of Ihiala and beyond, who see it as a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative security efforts in Anambra. As investigations continue, the public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
