Anambra CP Urges Community Collaboration for Enhanced Security at News Central TV Town Hall

On April 24, 2025, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized the critical need for stronger community partnerships to bolster safety and security across the state. Speaking at a Security Town Hall Meeting hosted by News Central TV at the Radisson-Onyx Hotel, CP Orutugu engaged with citizens, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to address pressing security concerns and propose solutions for sustainable stability.
The Town Hall, attended by representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), vigilante groups, civil society organizations, women’s groups, youth forums, and the press, provided a platform for open dialogue on security challenges in Anambra. CP Orutugu highlighted the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in resolving disputes over land, kingship tussles, boundary issues, and farmer-herder clashes, noting that unaddressed conflicts often escalate into serious crimes and crises.
Calling for greater community engagement, the CP stressed the need for shared resources and intelligence to enhance police operations. “Understanding community needs and concerns is vital to improving security across every area of the state,” he said. He also expressed concern over societal moral decay, urging parents and guardians to foster closer relationships with their children to guide them effectively and curb negative behaviors.
The event underscored the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in achieving lasting peace and security in Anambra. CP Orutugu’s call for collaboration resonated with attendees, who included traditional rulers and youth leaders, reinforcing the need for unified efforts to address the state’s security challenges.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, reiterated the Command’s commitment to fostering community-driven security initiatives. The Town Hall marks a significant step toward building trust and cooperation between the police and the people of Anambra.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, inaugurated the new board of Nimo General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marking a pivotal step in revitalizing the healthcare facility.
