Dunukofia Local Officials Task Youths On Equal Contribution And Participation In Politics To Promote Good Governance

Officials in the Dunukofia Local Government Area have called on youth in the community to actively engage in promoting good governance and development at the local, state, and national levels. 


This call was made during a recent youth gathering held at the council headquarters in Ukpo.


Declaring the occasion open, the Chairman, High Chief Chike Odoji emphasized the significant role young people can play in shaping the future of their communities. He urged the youth to proactively participate and contribute equally to governance processes, highlighting that they represent a substantial portion of the population and possess the ability to influence decision-making in Dunukofia.


Chief Odoji encouraged young people to engage in local governance not just as voters but as active stakeholders. He stressed the importance of attending community meetings, voicing their opinions on pressing issues, and collaborating with local leaders to bring about positive change.


The keynote address, entitled "A Challenging Narrative of the Future: Youth Participation and the Roles in Governance," was delivered by Prof. Stephen Uchenna Ufoaroh, the President General of Ifitedunu community. Prof. Ufoaroh underscored the necessity for youth to channel their creativity and energy into championing positive change and societal development. 


He pointed out that political education is vital for young people, enabling them to understand the political system effectively. He urged the youth to approach politics with a mindset focused on building resilient systems and creating alternative livelihood opportunities, rather than viewing politics merely as a means of income.


He also called on the youth to hold their leaders accountable and demand transparency in governance, ensuring elected officials fulfill their promises. He also encouraged participation in the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state through the Youth Advocate Network (YAN) platform. 


Prof. Ufoaroh further urged Igbo youths to take advantage of the ongoing Army recruitment exercise to fill the slots allocated to the region and appealed to the federal government to prioritize job creation by establishing cottage industries nationwide, addressing the pressing issue of insecurity in the country.


In a separate address, Barrister Chijioke Uzomba, the Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Area, expressed his satisfaction with the program and outlined his vision, which aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's solution agenda. He emphasized the importance of building a resilient community where everyone's voice is heard and collective efforts lead to sustainable growth and progress. 


Barr. Uzomba congratulated the newly elected YAN executives, urging them to live up to expectations. He called upon the youth to embrace leadership roles and utilize their God-given potential to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the state and Nigeria.


Inauguration of YAN executives of Dunukofia's local government chapter and award presentation climaxed the event.


Other dignitaries present at the function includes the Special Adviser to governor Soludo on Youth Development, Dr Nelson Obinna Omenugha, YAN Deputy Minority Leader, Amb. Charles Ezeaniekwe, Ukpo Community leader, Chief Andrew Modilim, the State YAN Speaker, Comrade Ezeani Mayor, Chief of Staff to the Council Chairman, Hon Chinedu Onuleke, traditional rulers and other members of YAN.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji. The incident, which occurred at their residence in Amudo Village, stemmed from a heated dispute over profits from a cassava business, with Nnamdi accusing his mother of dishonesty. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, inaugurated the new board of Nimo General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marking a pivotal step in revitalizing the healthcare facility.
