Peace Prevails in Anambra: CP Orutugu Brokers Truce in Nando Land Dispute

 


 In a decisive move to restore harmony in Ubarusioye Village, Nando, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, intervened in a simmering land dispute at Ogu Clan on April 26, 2025. Demonstrating exemplary leadership, CP Orutugu convened stakeholders at the State Police Command Headquarters in Awka, fostering dialogue and securing a peace agreement to prevent further escalation.


The dispute, rooted in competing claims over land in Ogu Clan, had threatened the tranquility of the community. In a strategic intervention, CP Orutugu emphasized the power of community-led solutions, urging collaborative problem-solving to address land disputes and promote peaceful coexistence. His approach, grounded in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), underscores the Command’s commitment to innovative conflict resolution as part of its broader operational strategy.


During the meeting, attended by key figures including Mr. Alexander Nwabueze (Chairman, Umunnamoke kindred), Dr. Chijioke Ifejika (Chairman, Adagbe-Ogu kindred), Mr. Ebenezer Chibuzor (representing the Chairman, Ukwuorji kindred), the Divisional Police Officer of Otuocha, and other village representatives, CP Orutugu facilitated open discussions. The result was a landmark undertaking signed by all parties, pledging to maintain peace pending the resolution of the crisis through stakeholder inputs.


“This is a testament to the strength of unity and dialogue,” CP Orutugu remarked. “By working together, we can resolve disputes without violence and build a safer Anambra for all.”


The initiative aligns with the Command’s recently launched Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping, a multi-agency security strategy aimed at curbing crime and fostering stability across the state. The adoption of ADR reflects a forward-thinking approach to policing, prioritizing de-escalation and community engagement.


SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, hailed the development as a milestone in the Command’s efforts to promote peace. “CP Orutugu’s intervention has set a precedent for resolving conflicts amicably. We urge other communities to emulate this model of cooperation,” he stated.


As Anambra State Police Command continues to champion peacebuilding, the successful mediation in Ubarusioye Village stands as a beacon of hope, proving that dialogue and collaboration can triumph over discord.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji.
