As the race for Anambra State's governorship gathers momentum ahead of the November 8 election, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, has received a major boost from a prominent grassroots organization—Women for Amamgbo.

The group, comprising women leaders and coordinators from seven local government areas in Anambra South—Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Aguata, Orumba North, and Orumba South—declared their support during Moghalu’s visit to Nnewi on Tuesday, April 29.

The women, originally mobilized in support of LP senatorial hopeful Barr. Donald Amamgbo, said their backing of Moghalu was a natural extension of their commitment to the party’s broader vision.

“We cannot support the senatorial candidate of our party and leave out the governorship candidate. Dr. Moghalu represents the strength and integrity the Labour Party needs to succeed in Anambra,” the group’s leader stated.

Describing Moghalu as “the biggest gift Labour Party has received in Anambra,” the women pledged to mobilize support across wards and polling units to secure his victory at the polls.

In his address, Dr. Moghalu, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), expressed appreciation for the endorsement and emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization.

“The election we are facing is a grassroots battle, not a tea party,” he said. “It requires commitment, structure, and community-based strategy. I will give you every support needed to strengthen your outreach.”

Moghalu urged the group to not only ensure victory for Amamgbo in the upcoming senatorial by-election but also to extend their efforts towards the governorship race and beyond.

“Our goal is clear: Labour Party from top to bottom—the Senate, Governorship, and Peter Obi at Aso Rock in 2027,” he declared.

The endorsement marks a key moment in Moghalu’s campaign as grassroots mobilization continues to shape the political landscape in Anambra State.

Anambra Police Arrest Man for Mother’s Murder, Foil Suicide Attempt in Ekwulobia

Ekwulobia, Anambra State – A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, was arrested by police in Ekwulobia on April 11, 2025, for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji.
