Awka, May 28, 2025. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Nnewi Sector, acting on credible intelligence, have arrested a 37-year-old suspect, Friday Obeta, in connection with the proscribed Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB). The arrest follows reports that the group was planning to enforce a sit-at-home order on May 30, 2025.

During the operation, police recovered a motorcycle, a branded t-shirt, and an operational identification card belonging to the proscribed organization. The suspect confessed to being a member and informant for MASSOB, providing valuable information that is aiding ongoing investigations to apprehend other members of the group.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives and directed them to intensify their efforts to prevent any unlawful activities. He emphasized the need for heightened surveillance across Anambra State to foil any planned gatherings by the group.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, urging residents to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
