Anambra Police Dismantle Drug Trafficking Network, Arrest Six Suspects

In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, operatives of the Anambra State Police Command’s Special Cultism Squad, Obosi Sector, raided a drug trafficking network in Isuaniocha, Awka North Local Government Area, on May 30, 2025. The operation, conducted in the early hours based on credible intelligence, led to the arrest of six suspects, including a female drug dealer, and the recovery of a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be hard drugs, along with other incriminating substances.

The arrested individuals were identified as Chinyere Onwuka, 32 (female), John Kennedy Onwuka, 36 (male), Chidiebere Onyeze, 30 (male), Echeazu Nonso, 35 (male), Osita Chukwu Chialuka, 21 (male), and Nnebedum Wisdom, 25 (male). The suspects are set to be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Awka for further investigation and action.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the rising trend of drug consumption among youths, describing drugs as “the oxygen that drives most crimes and bad behaviour exhibited by individuals.” He reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug abuse through intensified advocacy efforts, including the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV). The initiative aims to educate young people about the dangers of illicit drugs and related vices across the state.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the details of the operation in a statement released on May 31, 2025. The police remain steadfast in their mission to curb drug trafficking and its associated criminal activities in Anambra State.
