Children's Day: Ezeogidi Breaks 7-Year Jinx, Hosts Mega Celebration For Nnewi South Council Students

It was an atmosphere of joy and excitement as the determined Mayor of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Hon. Van George Ezeogidi, hosted a grand Children’s Day celebration, breaking a seven-year hiatus of such events in the LGA.

The heartwarming event, which took place at St. Mary's Field in Ukpor had in attendance students from various primary and secondary schools, parents, traditional rulers, local officials, and other dignitaries.

Declaring the ceremony open, Hon. Ezeogidi emphasized his administration’s commitment to promoting child welfare, quality education, and cultural values. He noted that the Children’s Day celebration is not just a tradition but a vital reminder of the government’s role in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow and commended Governor Soludo for restoring peace and confidence in the heart of the people through the new effective security framework.

The Mayor while admonishing teachers and parents to thrive in instilling the right discipline in their students and wards also noted that event served as a testament to the commitment of the Nnewi South Local Government to align with the vision of the Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's administration to promote excellence, encourage productivity and foster a unique environment where every citizen is encouraged to thrive and succeed in their various endeavours.

Prince Dan Ojimba, a Chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA in the Council described the celebration as a long-awaited return to normalcy and a reflection of responsive governance. He commended Governor Charles Soludo for gifting Nnewi South with purposeful leadership through Hon. Ezeogidi and pledged to support the Mayor and Governor Soludo in achieving their good vision in Nnewi South local government.

In her separate remark, the Head of Local Government Administration, Princess Nweke Obiageli commended the Mayor’s initiative and noted that this year’s celebration marked a remarkable improvement in terms of organization and turnout. She pledged her unalloyed commitment in supporting the Mayor in localizing Governor Soludo’s “Solution Agenda” within the council.

Parents and students, including Comrade Nnoli Esther and Ogbonna Chinecherem from Union Secondary School, Amichi, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Mayor and Governor Soludo for reviving the annual tradition and making it a memorable one for children in the area. They urged the government to sustain the rapid transformation program in the council and Anambra at large.

The Chairman of the Nnewi South Local Government Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Samuel Anayochukwu, also applauded the initiative, calling it a unifying event that reinforces community spirit and cultural pride. He urged parents and teachers to continue playing their role in the holistic development of children.

Parades, a football competition, and cultural dance presentations by students and distribution of free educational materials climaxed the colorful celebration, leaving lasting memories in the hearts of the young participants.

Ohineleke Central School, Ukpor clinched the 1st Position for the March Past in the Primary School category while Holy Child Convent Amichi held the 1st for the Secondary School respectively.
