Commissioner of Police Commends Awka Community for Peaceful Conduct, Urges Others to Follow Suit

 On May 27, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Awka, His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Gibson Nwosu OON (Eze Uzu II). The delegation, which included senior police officers and friends of the Anambra State Police Command, commended the indigenes and residents of Awka for their steadfast commitment to peace and enhanced cooperation with security agencies.


During the visit, CP Orutugu praised the community for maintaining a crime-free environment, particularly during the recent Imoka Festival, which recorded zero incidents of violence or unruly behavior. He noted that this was a significant departure from past reports of miscreants disrupting celebrations and causing unrest. The CP urged other communities across Anambra State to emulate Awka’s exemplary conduct in fostering peace and supporting security efforts.


In discussions with the Traditional Ruler, revered chiefs, and stakeholders, including the Prime Minister of Awka and the Chief Security Officer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, CP Orutugu emphasized the importance of community-police collaboration in ensuring safety and stability. He expressed gratitude for Awka’s proactive role in enhancing security and called for continued partnership.


In response, HRH Igwe Dr. Gibson Nwosu thanked the Commissioner for the visit and pledged greater support to the Anambra State Police Command. He also offered prayers for the success and safety of the Command’s operations. The palace reception included prominent figures such as kingmakers and other esteemed chiefs of the Awka Kingdom.


The visit underscores the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to strengthening ties with communities to promote peace and security across the state.
