Enugwu Agidi Community Celebrates Flag-Off of Mkpasalaku-Obunagu Bridge
The President General of Enugwu Agidi, Hon. Ebuka Onuorah, Ijele Enugwu Agidi, joined by community leaders and residents, flagged off the construction of the Mkpasalaku-Obunagu Bridge in a colorful ceremony today, Sunday May 18, 2025. The bridge, connecting the Mkpasalaku and Obunagu areas in Njikoka Local Government Area, is set to transform the community by improving connectivity and spurring development. The event, marked by cultural displays and speeches, highlighted the project’s significance as a beacon of progress.
The Mkpasalaku-Obunagu Bridge promises significant economic benefits for Enugwu Agidi. By providing a direct route, it will ease the transport of goods like yam and cassava to markets in Awka and beyond, cutting costs and time for farmers and traders. Local businesswoman Nkechi Okafor said, “This bridge will help us sell our goods faster and attract more buyers.” The project is expected to boost commerce and create new opportunities for small businesses.
Socially, the bridge will strengthen community ties by enabling easier interaction between Mkpasalaku and Obunagu residents. Previously, poor routes limited family visits and community events, especially during the rainy season. The President General emphasized, “This bridge will unite our people, making it easier for our children and youth to connect.” The project complements recent local initiatives, like the healthcare and ICT facility in Obunagu, fostering a sense of shared progress.
Access to essential services will also improve significantly. The bridge will ensure year-round travel to schools and clinics, addressing challenges faced during floods. “This will save lives by getting people to hospitals faster,” noted local nurse Chidi Eze. Students will benefit from shorter commutes, potentially boosting academic performance and participation in community activities.
The Mkpasalaku-Obunagu Bridge marks a milestone in Enugwu Agidi’s development, with potential to attract further infrastructure like roads and electricity. Its modern design will withstand seasonal flooding, ensuring safety and reliability. As the community celebrates this achievement, the bridge stands as a testament to collective e
ffort and a foundation for a brighter future.
