Police Commissioner Leads Investigation into Oko Murder and Abduction, Bolsters Security Measures



Oko, Anambra State – On June 20, 2025, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu led a high-powered investigative team to the scene of a violent crime in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, where two individuals were brutally murdered and two others abducted. 


The team, comprising operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Tactical Teams, and Operations Department, conducted a thorough on-site assessment to address the heinous incident that has shaken the community.



During the visit, CP Orutugu engaged with key stakeholders, including the Orumba North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Casmir Nwafor, and representatives of the Oko Polytechnic Students Union. He emphasized the need for greater community cooperation to expose criminals operating in the area. 


The stakeholders pledged to collaborate with the police by sharing intelligence, supporting investigations, and implementing enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents.



In a show of compassion, CP Orutugu visited the hospital where two victims, including a female survivor, are receiving treatment. He interacted with the hospital management and assured support for the victims’ medical care, underscoring the Command’s commitment to both justice and victim welfare.



To strengthen security in Oko, CP Orutugu ordered immediate reinforcement of police presence, particularly around high-traffic areas such as hostels and schools. This proactive measure aims to enhance surveillance and ensure public safety in the wake of the incident.


SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to curbing crime and preventing similar tragedies.


 “The Command remains resolute in adopting a holistic approach to investigate this incident thoroughly while prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents,” he stated.


The Anambra State Police Command continues to urge residents and students to provide credible information to aid ongoing investigations and safeguard the community.
