Police Commissioner Partners with Federal Polytechnic Oko to Tackle Security Challenges

On June 23, 2025, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, hosted a strategic meeting with Dr. Mrs. Chioma Irene Amuzie, Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, and Mr. Chijoke Okechukwu, Head of Federal Establishments in Anambra State, at the Anambra State Police Command headquarters in Awka. 


The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to address security concerns affecting the polytechnic and other federal facilities in the state.


The discussions were prompted by a recent violent incident on June 19, 2025, where armed criminals, operating with a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a plate number, opened fire at Total Junction in Oko, injuring four people, including a woman. 


The assailants also abducted two individuals at Tipper Junction before fleeing. CP Orutugu expressed regret over the incident and urged the polytechnic’s management to deepen cooperation with the police to enhance security measures and prevent future occurrences.


In response, Dr. Amuzie and Mr. Okechukwu commended the police for their swift intervention during the incident, which minimized further casualties and property damage. They pledged to support the police by enhancing surveillance and providing critical information to aid ongoing investigations.


The meeting, attended by senior police officials including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Criminal Investigations Department), and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (State Intelligence Department), underscored CP Orutugu’s commitment to proactive security and community engagement. 


A symbolic highlight was the presentation of a gift to the Rector by the Commissioner, reinforcing the spirit of partnership.


SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, described the meeting as a significant step toward bolstering security around federal establishments, reflecting the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
