Anambra Police Vow to Crack Down on Misinformation Spreading Panic

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning against individuals and groups spreading false or exaggerated security-related information on social media and other platforms, aimed at causing public panic and discrediting security agencies. The announcement, made by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, comes as part of an ongoing security assessment in the state.


The Command expressed concern over the rising trend of deliberate misinformation, which it says undermines public confidence and hampers security operations. Such actions, described as malicious, are now under intense scrutiny, with the police promising to investigate and expose those responsible. Legal action will be pursued under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and other relevant laws.


SP Ikenga urged residents to remain vigilant, refrain from sharing unverified information, and report suspicious activities through official channels. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Anambra residents while maintaining transparency and professionalism in its operations.


The public is encouraged to support the police in their efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
