Anambra Police Nab Notorious Vehicle Thief, Recover Stolen Vehicles and Exhibits in Obosi

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a notorious vehicle theft suspect, 24-year-old Chidi Nwoye, in a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime in the state. The arrest, made in the early hours of August 22, 2025, by operatives of the Isiowulu Police Division in collaboration with local vigilante operatives, occurred along Minaj Road, Obosi.


The suspect was intercepted while operating a stolen tricycle with registration number NSH 051 UD. During the operation, police recovered a Hyundai Tucson vehicle (registration PH 725 AAA) and a tricycle, both without ignition keys, alongside a cache of incriminating items. These include eight assorted GSM phones, a black face-cap branded “AVG Special Force,” a battle axe, a driver’s license belonging to one Ikechukwu, two bunches of keys, four master keys, two ATM cards, a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), a vehicle tracking device, a sensor, a USB drive, an ear pod, a damaged fuse, a vehicle booklet, beads, improvised wires, a tricycle ignition device, an iPhone watch, and a brown sling bag containing personal effects, including a pair of red canvas shoes and cash.


Upon interrogation, Nwoye confessed to using master keys to steal vehicles and tricycles from their parked locations. Police have since extended their investigation to the suspect’s hideout, aiming to recover additional stolen items.


The Anambra State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, has urged members of the public who may have recently lost items matching the description of the recovered exhibits to visit the Isiowulu Police Station for identification and possible recovery. The suspect will face court proceedings upon the conclusion of the investigation.


This arrest underscores the Command’s commitment to curbing vehicle theft and ensuring the safety of lives and property in Anambra State.
