Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Godwin Eze has taken charge of the deployment of police personnel for the Anambra State bye-elections scheduled for tomorrow, August 16, 2025. Appointed as the Supervisory Officer by the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Eze today outlined stringent measures to ensure a secure and orderly electoral process.

In his address, AIG Eze emphasized that only accredited security personnel are permitted to participate in election duties. Vigilante groups, hunters, and other quasi-security outfits are strictly prohibited from any involvement in the electoral process to prevent disruptions and ensure adherence to election guidelines.

To enhance security, a vehicular movement restriction will be enforced from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the affected areas on election day. The restriction covers Nnewi North and South, Orumba North and South, Ekwusigo, Aguata, and Ihiala Local Government Areas within the Anambra South Senatorial District, as well as Onitsha North Constituency 1 and Awka South Local Government, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters is located. This measure aims to deter criminal activities, reduce the risk of electoral violence, and ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, and security personnel.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security operatives. For complaints or emergencies, the public is encouraged to contact AIG Godwin Eze at 08023407772, the Command’s Control Room at 07039194332, or the Police Public Relations Officer at 08039334002.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, emphasized the Command’s readiness to ensure a hitch-free election and called for public cooperation to maintain peace during the exercise.
