Anambra Youth Rally in Support of Agunaechemba, Udo Ga-Achi Operatives



...Urge Politicians to Avoid Politicizing Security

On Saturday, the youth wing of the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC) staged a solidarity rally in Awka, endorsing the continued operations of the Agunaechemba and Udo Ga-Achi security outfits while calling on politicians to refrain from politicizing the state’s security challenges. 



The peaceful demonstration, which saw youths from Anambra’s 179 communities march through Awka streets to the new Government House, was a direct response to a protest held the previous day by some youths led by Sir Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) governorship candidate, who demanded the disbandment of Agunaechemba and the Special Anambra Anti-touting Squad (SASA) over alleged unprofessional conduct.



Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the ASTUC youth expressed unwavering support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid and the state’s security operatives. 


The rally was led by Hon. Ken Okoli, President of the ASTUC youth wing, who condemned the actions of eight Agunaechemba members caught on a viral video assaulting Ms. Jennifer Elohor, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. Okoli commended the state government for promptly sacking the culprits and handing them over to the police for prosecution. He assured that youths across the 179 communities would continue to monitor the activities of state security operatives to ensure compliance with professional standards.



Okoli emphasized the critical role of Agunaechemba and Udo Ga-Achi in maintaining security in Anambra, warning that disbanding these outfits could jeopardize the state’s stability and embolden opposition politicians to exploit insecurity for electoral gain in the upcoming November 8 governorship poll. “We can’t allow Agunaechemba and Udo Ga-Achi to be disbanded because of the mistakes of a few members. 


The Anambra State Homeland Security law has empowered them to provide solutions to security challenges,” Okoli stated. “We are in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election and the leadership of Agunaechemba. We do not want a return to an era where people will run away from Anambra.”



Receiving the protesters on behalf of Governor Soludo, the Chief of Staff, Sir Ernest Ezeajughi, expressed gratitude for the youths’ confidence in the state government. 



He highlighted the administration’s achievements in transforming various sectors, particularly in security, and urged stakeholders and politicians to unite in tackling insecurity rather than exploiting it for political gain. “The governor is doing very well, especially in security. All stakeholders need to join hands in tackling insecurities. Kindly mobilize other youths across the 21 Local Government Areas and 326 wards to support the government’s efforts,” Ezeajughi said.
