Implementation of Telemedicine initiative: Anambra State Health workers brainstorm

Telemedicine, a technological mode of providing medical care and consultations remotely, in which patients and healthcare providers connect through video calls, phone calls, or messaging, enabling diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up without needing to visit a medical facility in person.


Considering the gains, Anambra State Government has held a meeting with its Health workers especially Doctors from around the state to discuss processes of distributing this attributes in earnest and effectively.


The meeting held at the Data Centre of the Ministry of Health, Awka was at the initiatives of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike.


While elaborating on the gains, the commissioner explained that the initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Health, was designed to close healthcare gaps, particularly in rural and underserved communities.


"The approach is both cost-effective and lifesaving, especially during emergencies," he said.


According to Dr. Obidike, Anambra State Government is committed to strengthening the scheme.


He warned against acts capable of sabotaging its success and said that any individual or official frustrating the smooth operation of the system would face sanctions, including possible removal from the State Health Agency.


"To boost efficiency, doctors engaged in this programme will undergo regular training to improve their knowledge of telemedicine technology and stay aligned with its objectives.


"The government will continue to invest in digital infrastructure, stable internet connectivity, and technical support to ensure the platform functions effectively."


The government however made available digital lines for residents to reach doctors via the Telehub Centre.
