Mama Anambra represents Nigeria's First Lady in Women Empowerment Splash

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor, has presented 500 Anambra women with a business recapitalization grant of N50,000 each to support their existing small businesses.

The empowerment programme, which was a partnership between the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, is economic sustainability package for local businesses and households who depend naturally on such businesses to make better livelihood.

The recapitalization grant, a total sum of twenty-five million naira, was handed out to five hundred pre-selected petty traders, including people with special needs, who were carefully selected from across all the communities in Anambra State.

Speaking shortly before presenting the cash to the beneficiaries, the Anambra governor’s wife, Dr.(Mrs) Nonye Soludo who read the president's wife letter, noted that economic empowerment programme is about supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of women traders and small-scale business owners who wake up each day determined to provide for their families, educate their children, and uplift their communities.

She emphasized that the money was not a loan, but a grant and a seed of renewed hope to help recapitalize their existing businesses, adding that it was her firm belief that when you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed, a nation.

The president's wife also thanked the governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, and Dr. Nonye Soludo for all their support in executing all the programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in the state.

To support the president's wife's gesture, Anambra governor's wife empowered an additional five hundred women with a similar sum to bring the total number of beneficiaries to 1,000.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Pauline Anyanwu, Precious Nwadinobi, Uche Muo and Cecilia Okeke, all dealing in one small trade or the other, described the gesture as a very transparent one which identified the right people.

To further drive her attention on health, the governor's also organized free medical checks for all the beneficiaries who attended the event.
