Anambra Police Arrest Soldier for Alleged Self-Kidnapping Scam

 On the evening of September 15, 2025, the Anambra State Police Command took custody of Samuel Ekezie, a 38-year-old soldier attached to the 302 Artillery Regiment, Nigerian Army, Onitsha, for allegedly orchestrating his own kidnapping to extort money from his family.


According to a statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, Ekezie is accused of faking his abduction on August 15, 2025, and sending a text message to his family demanding a ransom of ₦20,000,000 for his release. Following a technology-driven investigation, the suspect was apprehended in his hideout in Rivers State.


The Anambra State Police Command has assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. Further details are expected as the case progresses.
