The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reported significant successes in its ongoing efforts to enhance security and combat crime across the state. Through strategic positioning, enhanced patrols, and collaboration with community stakeholders, police operatives have arrested three suspects involved in car snatching, truck diversion, and a child abduction syndicate, while recovering stolen vehicles and items in separate operations.

Arrest of Truck Theft Suspects in Achalla

On September 23, 2025, at approximately 12:38 PM, a joint team comprising operatives from Achalla Division and members of the Special Vigilante Taskforce arrested two male suspects, Chinwendu Ndieli and Uchenna Offodile, in connection with the theft of a Mack Truck (Registration No. T 5003 LA) and an empty container. The vehicle, suspected to have been stolen, was found parked near St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Achalla. Following interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing the truck from a company in Lagos. The police have contacted the owner to reclaim the vehicle upon presentation of necessary documentation.

Recovery of Abandoned Vehicle in Okpoko

On the same day, operatives from Okpoko Division acted on credible intelligence and recovered an abandoned white Toyota Camry Spider (Registration No. AWK 91 SR) along Onitsha-Owerri Road, opposite Tiger Fruit Company. During a search of the vehicle, an additional plate number (Delta: 06A 90 DT) was found inside. The vehicle has been secured at the station for safekeeping, pending identification and collection by its rightful owner.

Arrest in Child Abduction Case in Ihiala

In a separate operation on the evening of September 23, 2025, youths from Akwa Village, Ihiala, assisted in the arrest of Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo, a suspect linked to the abduction of three children aged 6, 3, and 2 years. Preliminary investigations revealed that Charles, in collaboration with two accomplices who remain at large, conspired to abduct the children. The mother of the victims reported that her children were taken while she briefly stepped into the kitchen to fetch more food. The suspect, a neighbor who had been harboring the fleeing accomplices, was attacked and injured by an irate mob before being rescued by the police. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and locate the missing children. The case is under active investigation.

Continued Commitment to Safety

The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state. Other parts of the command remain calm, with ongoing counter-terrorism and crime prevention operations in full swing. The public is urged to provide timely information to aid police efforts in combating crime.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, emphasized the command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of residents and encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
