Breaking: Former Speaker House of Reps, Rt. Hon. Anaekwe Begins Final Journey Home

The late Rt. Hon. Chief Agunwa Anaekwe, former Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 3rd National Assembly, has commenced his final journey home, as announced during a World Press Conference held by the joint National Burial Committee. The event took place at Conference Room 1.17, Senate Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja, with attendees including leaders from the House of Representatives, the Senate, family members, and close associates of the deceased.


In his address, Senator Osita Izunaso, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market and Institutions and the Chairman of the Late Chief Agunwa Anaekwe Burial Committee, led a minute of silence in honor of the late parliamentarian. He described Chief Anaekwe’s passing at the age of 69 as a profound loss, particularly at a time when his experience and wisdom were greatly needed by his family, the Southeast, and Nigeria as a whole. Senator Izunaso urged all to find comfort in the divine will of the Almighty.

Notable attendees at the press conference included Senator Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State; Dr. Ijeomah Anadiogbu, Vice Chairman of APC South East; BC Igwilo, SAN, Local Organising Committee Chairman; Hon. Bartholomew Anaekwe, brother of the deceased; and two of the late Speaker’s sons, among other dignitaries.


The late Rt. Hon. Chief Agunwa Anaekwe served as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 3rd National Assembly from 1992 to 1993.
