The newly commissioned Anaku General Hospital, Ayamelum Local Government Area (LGA) Anambra State has recorded its first childbirth just days after its inauguration by the State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo.

The delivery took place in the early hours of Saturday, October 25 with both the mother and baby in a stable condition.

This has been described as a major milestone, symbolizing the commencement of full medical services at the new hospital.

Commissioned only on October 23, 2025 the Anaku General Hospital stands as one of the modern health facilities completed under Governor Soludo’s administration, aimed at bringing quality and affordable healthcare closer to rural communities.

Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, expressed happiness over the successful delivery, noting that it reflected the functionality and readiness of the hospital to serve the people of Ayamelum and surrounding areas.

“This is not just a symbolic moment; it is a clear testimony that the Anaku General Hospital is alive and already delivering on its mandate.

"The Soludo's administration is intentional about improving healthcare access for every Anambra citizen, regardless of location,” Dr. Obidike said.

He commended the hospital’s medical team for their dedication and professionalism, assuring that the government would continue to provide the necessary support and supervision to ensure sustained quality service delivery.

The commissioning of the Anaku General Hospital is part of Governor Soludo’s broader health sector reforms, which included the rehabilitation of general hospitals, recruitment of healthcare professionals, and provision of modern medical equipment across the state.

For residents of Anaku and neighboring communities, the first successful child birth and delivery at the hospital is more than a medical event, it is a sign of renewed hope for accessible and dependable healthcare right at their doorstep.
