Anambra Governorship Election: CP Orutugu Intensifies Peace-Building Efforts with Visit to Ogidi Monarch and Security Stakeholders

In a proactive move to ensure a peaceful electoral process, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc minps PhD, continued his election peace-building advocacy tour on October 25, 2025. 


The tour included a significant courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Uzo Alexander Onyido (Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom) and engagements with security stakeholders at the Ogidi Area Command.


During his visit to the Ogidi Palace, CP Orutugu emphasized the pivotal role of traditional institutions in fostering peace and moral leadership within communities. 


He highlighted their importance in preventing election-related violence, discouraging youth involvement in political thuggery, and promoting communal harmony. 


The Commissioner urged the Palace and community leaders to mobilize residents for peaceful participation and to report any suspicious activities that could threaten security before, during, and after the upcoming governorship election.


In response, Igwe Onyido commended CP Orutugu for his proactive approach and pledged the Palace’s full cooperation in promoting peace and raising community awareness. 


The monarch also called on youths, political actors, and interest groups in Ogidi and its environs to refrain from actions that could disrupt the community's peace.


Following a closed-door meeting with Divisional Police Officers, CP Orutugu addressed officers and men at the Ogidi Area Command Headquarters, reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism and impartiality. 


He stressed that the police’s role is to secure the electoral process and protect citizens’ rights, not to influence election outcomes. 


He further noted that security agencies in Anambra are collaborating to ensure a peaceful pre-election environment, a safe voting atmosphere, and a stable post-election period.


The Commissioner also held an interactive session with key security stakeholders, including Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka, Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, vigilante operatives, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Presidents General of Communities, and other local leaders. 


These stakeholders praised the Anambra State Police Command for its continuous engagement and pledged their support for a peaceful and credible election. 


They also committed to enhanced intelligence sharing and coordinated community-based security efforts.


CP Orutugu reassured the people of Anambra (Ndi Anambra) that robust security measures, including adequate deployments, surveillance operations, and rapid response units, have been activated across all Local Government Areas in the state. 


He urged residents to remain law-abiding and resist any incitement to violence, emphasizing that maintaining peace and stability in Anambra is a collective responsibility.


The Anambra State Police Command, under CP Orutugu’s leadership, continues to prioritize community engagement and strategic partnerships to ensure a secure and credible governorship election.
