Anambra Police Arrest Notorious Cultist, Recover Firearms Ahead of Governorship Election

In a proactive move to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in Anambra State, the Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a notorious suspected cultist and political thug, identified as 29-year-old Onyeaka Odogwu, alias Red Angel. The arrest, made on October 24, 2025, at approximately 11:30 AM, followed an intelligence-led operation by the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in Enugu-Ukwu.


During the operation, police recovered significant evidence, including two pump-action guns, two English-made double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, a red cloth, and regalia bearing cult insignia. Additionally, three black caps and two red caps inscribed with symbols associated with the Vikings Confraternity were seized. Following his arrest, Odogwu confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and admitted to engaging in political thuggery. 


On October 26, 2025, the suspect led SPACS operatives to the group’s armoury in Omor, where the aforementioned items were recovered. All exhibits have been documented as evidence, and investigations are ongoing to track down other gang members and associates named by the suspect.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized the Command’s commitment to preventing cult groups, armed gangs, or political thugs from disrupting the peace and electoral stability of Anambra State. He urged parents, community leaders, and youth groups to steer young people away from cult-related activities and assured residents of enhanced security deployments across all Local Government Areas ahead of the election.


SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, reiterated the Command’s dedication to maintaining law and order, ensuring a safe environment for the forthcoming governorship election.
