Obidient General Advocates Greater Civic Involvement In Promoting Good Governance

The southeast coordinator of the Obidient movement, Hon. Ikenna Azomchine, popularly known as the Obidient General, has called on citizens to take a more active role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in governance. 

He made this call during an interview on the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) program “Issues” in Awka, where he spoke on the topic “Citizens’ Contributions for Good Governance.”

Hon. Azomchine, who also serves as a member of the National Advisory Council of the Obidient Movement, emphasized that good governance is a collective responsibility that requires citizens to remain engaged beyond election cycles. 

He urged residents to participate in community dialogues, monitor government projects, and hold leaders accountable through constructive civic actions. 

According to him, “Democracy thrives only when citizens are informed, involved, and courageous enough to demand transparency from those in power.”

Addressing the political climate ahead of the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, Hon. Azomchine commended Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for his developmental strides across the state. 

He noted that the governor’s performance in key sectors, such as infrastructure, education, and economic reform has earned him broad-based support from diverse stakeholders. “Given his track record, it is only wise to support the continuation of good governance for sustained progress,” he remarked.

The Obidient General expressed confidence that voter apathy will not hinder the November 8 polls, citing renewed enthusiasm among the electorate. He observed that citizens are increasingly aware of the power of their votes and the impact of participatory governance on their daily lives. 

“This election will reflect the collective will of the people who now understand that democracy demands constant vigilance and involvement,” he asserted.

Highlighting what he described as an “unusual but encouraging” development, Hon. Azomchine praised the growing number of stakeholders who have voluntarily taken ownership of Governor Soludo’s reelection campaign. 

“It is remarkable to see stakeholders driving the campaign with passion and purpose rather than waiting for directives. This shows a unified resolve to safeguard Anambra’s progress,” he said.

Hon. Azomchine further reaffirmed the Obidient Movement’s commitment to civic enlightenment, political education, and ethical leadership and called on youths, civil society groups, and traditional institutions to sustain the momentum of participatory governance, stressing that “the true power of democracy lies not in the ballot alone, but in the continuous engagement of the governed with those who govern.”
