A tragic fire incident in Ekwusigo Local Government Area on November 21st, 2025, was caused by a fatal road accident involving a tanker truck and other vehicles, not an armed group attack as falsely reported on social media.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, a tanker carrying petrol (PMS) collided with a Toyota Corolla early that morning, causing the tanker to explode and ignite both vehicles along with some nearby shops.

A tricycle (Keke) caught in the blaze resulted in the death of its rider who was fatally burned.

The police have launched an investigation to identify the drivers involved and take necessary actions.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has also ordered a probe into the fake social media reports, aimed at arresting those who spread misinformation and panic across the state.

SP Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, reiterated the police command’s dedication to public safety and committed to providing accurate updates as the investigation continues.

Residents are urged to disregard rumors and rely on official information from the Anambra State Police Command.
