‎NPC, Kukah Center Launch Early Warning System for Anambra Election

‎With barely six weeks to the Anambra State governorship election, the National Peace Committee (NPC) through the Kukah Center has inaugurated the Early Warning–Early Response (EWER) System to bring together stakeholders to promote peace and credibility before, during and after the election.

‎

‎The inauguration, which drew participants from across the 21 local government areas in the state to Awka witnessed Journalists, Security agencies, political parties, religious and community leaders all committing to work as one to prevent electoral violence.

‎

‎Delivering her address, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Kukah Center Obafemi Deborah said the project was about building trust and transforming early warning signals into meaningful actions. She explained that over three days, stakeholders were trained to spot and report threats before they escalated.

‎

‎ In his remarks, the Managing Director of Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) Sir Chuka Nnabuife who reminded participants that while elections are important, society is the ultimate and must be protected from the pitfalls of violence noting that election was a collective responsibility.

‎

‎Lending his voice, the Traditional Ruler of Umueri HRM Igwe Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka urged citizens to come out without fear and vote during the election He emphasized that “only our votes will count” and called on the people to make their voices heard peacefully.

‎

‎Also, the Chairman of Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) Sir Vin Dike stressed that reforming elections required everyone to do the needful, 

‎

‎ ACP Ekori Remigius, representing the Anambra police command, while assuring that security forces were ready for full deployment, reassured voters that officers at polling units would not bear arms and would act strictly within the Electoral Act.

‎

‎In his presentation one of the participants Chizoba Orgu of Anambra South Senatorial Zone listed possible risks, from vote buying and manipulation of BVAS to post-election disputes. He urged the media to counter disinformation with accurate reporting, noting that “a peaceful election means safety of lives and properties.”

‎

‎The event ended with the adoption of framework, guiding principles and signing of commitment forms by participants.
