By O'star Eze Onitsha, Anambra State – A tragic gas cylinder explosion at a plumbing market along Uga Street, Onitsha Head Bridge, claimed one life and injured six others on May 16, 2025. Police operatives from the Onitsha Head Bridge Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly joined good-spirited individuals in rescue efforts, ensuring the victims received prompt attention. According to preliminary investigations, the explosion occurred when a welding gas cylinder detonated due to exposure to excessive heat while a welder was working on a metal. The six rescued victims are currently receiving treatment in a hospital, while the deceased has been deposited in a morgue. Police have secured the area to prevent opportunistic criminal activities. On the evening of May 15, 2025, the Anambra Joint Security Team successfully repelled an attack by armed criminals at a security checkpoint in Isuofia, Anambra State. The fierce confrontation resulted in the neutralization of two armed hoodlums, though one security operative was fatally wounded, and an operational vehicle was set ablaze by the assailants. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, the gun battle showcased the superior firepower of the joint security team, forcing the criminals to abandon their Toyota Sienna vehicle and flee the scene.
